Mannnnnn!!, November is already here and that means the holiday season is rapidly approaching. With the holidays comes a lot of yummy food, full schedules and when it comes to working out, an increase in reasons why you can’t get it done.
I’m here to tell you, it’s okay but that doesn’t mean I’m going to let you off the hook that easily. The holiday season is all about connection, love, family and friendships. With the recent losses I experienced in my life, I will definitely be taking full advantage of connecting with people the holiday season. But, I will also do my best to, “Keep moving”! Here are some simple ideas for you to apply in your life as that schedule starts to fill up.
Make it a part of your plans
Just like you do with your appointments, the kids’ appointments, and your holiday plans. Scheduling it will help you to stay accountable to yourself. Don’t think of it as going to workout, think of it as going to clear your mind and recharge for the rest of the day!
Be Flexible
We, of course, want you here with us, so if you can only get here for part of your workout or a quick open gym workout, come on in and get it done. Something is always better than nothing. It will also help you to feel more accomplished, rather than skipping it altogether and having that feeling of failure. It doesn’t always have to be the all or nothing approach we often apply to working out. It’s about staying consistent however you can.
Use it as time for connection
With more family and friends possibly coming around, take advantage of spending time with them two fold. Get some movement in and spend some quality time with someone. Get going with some group activities, you could always bring them here with us at 212 for a great workout. If not, maybe go out for a walk together, play a recreational sport, basketball, tennis etc.. Or dare I say, have an old school snowball fight or go sledding.
Make it short and sweet
Time can be our worst enemy and your workouts don’t always have to be 1+ hour long. Make it a quick one, 15-20 min quick blast will give you enough to keep stacking on your progress you already made. It’s as simple as taking 5 non competing exercises and repeating them through 3 - 5x. Here is something to try if you’re pressed for time- no equipment needed.
Push Up to Downward Dog x 10
Alternating Reverse Lunge x 16 total
Low Plank w/ Alternating Reach x 20 total
Side Plank Hip Thrusts x 10 per side
Jumping Jacks x 25
Repeat 3 - 5x
Quick, to the point, done! Now get showered up and head to the party.
What I’m trying to get at is don’t let yourself get overwhelmed. Stay flexible, literally and figuratively. Keep fitness in your routine and I promise you will add even more happiness to your holiday season.
Until next time, continue to live life one degree above the rest and finish this year out better that you started it!
