Self Care

by Kerry Taylor

15 years, 15 years, it's been 15 years since I did something like this for myself. What is that you may ask? Ready? Brace yourself. Gone away on a vacation that has zero ties to work and business. As I sit here on the beach I wonder to myself, why? Why have I waited so long to do this? Is it fear? Is it not being comfortable? Is it just habit? It's probably a combination of all of these rolled into one. After being here for a few days, I realized that you have to take the time to recharge your batteries and enjoy the rewards of your hard work. Momma Taylor and I would always have some heated discussions about me going on vacation. Of course, I would tell her she didn't understand and that I would be okay. But, as it usually goes, mom was right hahaha.

As mentioned in a previous blog, I'm working on being better at celebrating and enjoying myself. All work and no play makes Kerry a not-so-fun person for anyone. The one thing I will take away from this experience is that you must take care of yourself because no one else will...non-negotiable. Whether it's a vacation or doing something monthly, weekly, or daily to make sure you realign yourself, so you can continue to move forward to the greatness we all strive so much for. Here are some ideas if you are not sure what to do:

Vacation
What's better than going to a different location and resetting your mind and body by getting away?

Workout
Something powerful happens when you move your body and challenge yourself. Endorphins are a powerful thing.

Meditation
Take your mind and spirit to another place to get you to relax and reconnect.

Yoga
Take your mind and body to a place that may be foreign to you.

Massages and other body treatments
There are so many options that fall into this category. Choose one and see how it feels. Your body will thank you afterwards.

Go for a stroll
This can mean a walk or bike ride. Just get away from the car and leave your phone behind. Just go for a relaxing walk or ride.

Sing or dance
I do both of these daily. For me, this keeps my mood up and relaxed for sure.

Watch a sunrise or sunset
Not just for the romantic reasons, but because it is relaxing and refreshing.

Just do what you can to shut everything else out for a time that allows you to chill, reset, and relax. This is different for everyone, but find the ones that work well for you. Some people need more self care than others, but the key is to just do it. Remember, no one cares more about you than you. So take the time to take care of yourself.

Thank you to those who pushed me to take some real time away. I know I can be stubborn, so thank you. Until next time, continue to live a life 1 degree above the rest.
